Tales of wonder and humour to mesmerise audiences at Mayo arts centre
MAYO'S foremost creative arts and entertainment hub is incredibly proud to announce that it presents Between Dog and Wolf: An Evening of Storytelling with Tommy Tiernan and Martin Shaw in the Linenhall theatre on Wednesday, September 17.
Offering something truly unique, this enthralling show delves deep into the art of storytelling, where fairytales reveal the hidden history of the world. Tiernan and Shaw will take you on an unforgettable journey, inviting you to step into a realm beyond the ordinary.
Not stand up, not literary recital, it is an immersive adventure into the world of open eyed dreaming.
Picture a world where you lose your way home from the fair, a cow transforms into a hill, or a woman hides a fox tail beneath her skirt. These fantastical moments are happening all around us, and Tiernan and Shaw are here to bring those extraordinary tales to life.
EXCEPTIONAL LINE-UP
Known for bringing top class comedy performers to Mayo, the Linenhall has programmed an exceptional line-up for the months ahead, the perfect remedy for shaking off those winter blues.
On Saturday, April 26, musical genius and crowd favourite David O'Doherty returns with Tiny Piano Man, a quirky blend of funny songs and hilarious stand-up. Then, Friday, May 16, will see award-winning comedian Shane Daniel Byrne provide laugh-out-loud insights about jeans, jackets, and even Jesus Christ himself, as part of new show Trouble Denim.
Comic star Gearóid Farrelly is back with latest escapade Gearóid Rage on Friday, June 20, showcasing his signature razor-sharp wit and priceless observations. A side-splitting exploration of the complexities of womanhood, the brilliant Anne Gildea takes to the stage with Further Adventures in Womaning on Friday, September 26.
In the meantime the Linenhall hosts The Phoenix Players, with their powerful staging of Brian Friel’s Translations on Tuesday, April 15.
Set in 1833 in County Donegal, this poignant drama explores themes of language, identity, love, and colonisation. Through the lens of a small community's encounter with British surveyors, Friel underscores the profound effects of translation on both culture and personal relationships.
One of Ireland’s oldest amateur drama groups, The Phoenix Players hail from Tubbercurry, County Sligo.
Also upcoming, from a music standpoint, are Ultan Conlon and Band today (Saturday, April 12), Balla’s Joe Monaghan performing under the moniker Train Room on April 17, and the Cill Aodáin Choral Society are on stage on April 24.
