Passing of retired Mayo victualler Vincent Irwin

The death of Vincent Irwin, Blackfort, Castlebar, is deeply regretted in the community at large.

He died peacefully yesterday in the care of the staff of Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home, Castlebar, surrounded by his loving family.

A victualler by trade, he ran a very successful family butcher shop at Ellison Street for many years and his kind and courteous manner helped him build up a loyal customer base.

Tributes are being paid to him on social media where he was described as being 'a true gentleman'.

He is deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife Angela, daughters Lorraine and Hilary, son Ken, brother Padraic, sisters Mary (Granville) and Ann (Crofton), sons-in-law David and Con, daughter-in-law Lorna, grandchildren Leah and Emily, sister-in-law Josie, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Vincent was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Margaret and his brother Seán.

He will repose in St. Aidan’s Room, Islandeady, tomorrow evening (Tuesday) from 5.30 to 7 p.m.

Funeral cortége will arrive to St. Patrick’s Church, Islandeady, on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m.
