Additional 150 homes in west Mayo getting new water connection
APPROXIMATELY 150 new homes in the Murrisk-Lecanvey area will get new water connections next Tuesday, April 22.
This will bring the total connected to the new Murrisk water scheme to approximately 350 homes, Councillor Peter Flynn has confirmed.
The remaining 200 homes beyond Lecanvey will be connected by the end of June. This has been delayed dues to issues getting power to a booster station, he explained.
On extending the scheme to Louisburgh, Councillor Flynn said: “Unfortunately the extension to Louisburgh seems to be delayed but I am still hopeful that the existing pipe can be connected once the main trunkline is handed over to Uisce Éireann.”
Councillor Flynn highlighted how reduced rate connections to the new water supply are still available.
He said: “There is still the opportunity for home owners along the route to get a connection for a reduced fee of €1,750 assuming they are close to the network.
“All will revert to Uisce Éireann at the end of the summer, with the connection fee going to their standard rate of €2,272 plus the exorbitant cost if not within 10 metres of the existing network.”
Councillor Flynn extended thanks to Michael McDermott and his team in Mayo County Council, the two main contractors and the Murrisk water committee who continue to work away in the background.
