Oasis venue to host Mayo Day concert in Manchester
THE Farmers Arms in Burnage, which was once the local of Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, will host a Mayo Day concert on Saturday, May 3.
The Gallaghers lived around the corner from the Manchester bar and share the owner's same Mayo roots.
The concert features Joe Keegan and his band in the Oasis Music Lounge at the venue. Doors open at 8 and the concert starts at 9 p.m. People are encouraged to wear green and red to celebrate the county.
Joe was part of the award-winning Mayo Manchester Tradfest and has been supporting country music star Nathan Carter at the popular Craic on the Creek Festival as well as touring Europe.
Tony Hennigan from the Mayo Manchester Tourism and Business Group commented: “We are delighted to be hosting the concert. Manchester is home to one of the biggest Mayo diaspora communities in the UK and the venue has already hosted a number of Mayo events. We even hosted Mayo GAA stars Paddy Durcan and Diarmuid O'Connor when they were over for a Manchester United match.
“We can’t wait to hear Joe and his band belting out the 'Green and Red of Mayo'. Joe and his band are great entertainers and he will be performing a number of Mayo hits from the Sawdoctors as well as Oasis hits. It promises to be a great night to celebrate Mayo and Manchester.”
The event is in association with Mayo County Council as part of their award-winning world Mayo Day festival.
Mayo Day is a celebration of ‘Mayo-ness’ worldwide and has grown over last 10 years, to the point that different events around the world take place to mark it and it's hoped this year will be bigger than ever internationally.
This year Mayo Day is changing, and rather than one big event in one location, Mayo Day flagship events are going to take place locally, nationally and internationally.
It will be taking place on its traditional date on the Saturday of the May bank holiday weekend, May 3.
The theme for this years Mayo Day is ‘Mayo - Many Places, Many People’ - to showcase the best that Mayo has to offer in as wide a variety of areas.
