Leading Mayo local government official is retiring after 28 years service

Paul Dolan is retiring from the staff of Mayo County Council after 28 years of dedicated and loyal service.

The Castlebar-based official is the outgoing Head of Roads at the authority.

Tributes have been paid to him by elected members of the council.

Paying tribute, Councillor Michael Loftus joked how Mr. Dolan once called him 'an architectural vandal' for suggesting Hickson's corner in Crossmolina should be removed to allow for wind turbine blades to be moved through the town with greater ease en route to the Oweninny Wind Farm.

“I might have the last laugh yet, however, because the next blades to come through are longer and one of the suggestions being made to get them through is the removal of Hickson's corner!

"I wish him well in his retirement.”

Councillors Annie May Reape and Councillor Jarlath Munnelly both noted that a lot of work was done when Mr. Dolan was based in Ballina for 14 years.
