Newly co-opted Mayo councillor joins Fine Gael

Fine Gael has confirmed Councillor Marie-Thérèse Duffy has joined the party.

Councillor Duffy was co-opted to Mayo County Council to replace her brother Mark after his election to Seanad Éireann in January.

Councillor Duffy said: “I am pleased to share that I have joined Fine Gael following my recent co-option onto Mayo County Council.

"With the backing of a government party, I will have the opportunity to represent and deliver for our constituents at both local and national levels.

“Many major decisions that affect our lives here in Mayo are made centrally in Dublin.

"I will be working tirelessly to secure increased investment for the betterment of our local community in North Mayo. I look forward to driving on vital projects with the support of Fine Gael colleagues in Government.

“As part of the governing group on Mayo County Council, there is strength in numbers and this is key to getting decisions over the line at a local and national level.

"As an elected member of the Northern and Western Regional Assembly, I am committed to accelerating regional development and investment in Mayo.

“My constituents’ priorities are my priorities and I will be working on housing delivery, transport, healthcare and solutions to traffic congestion, and in road safety, particularly in Ballina. I look forward to delivering progress in these areas.

“As a proud Mayo woman, I am delighted to represent the community and will provide a strong, hard-working and caring voice for my local constituents.”
