Progress report on demolition and replacement of Mayo school

Education Minister Helen McEntee has provided an updated report on the planned demolition and replacement of St. Brid's Special School in Castlebar.

She outlined: "The project is being delivered under my department's ADAPT programme.

"This uses a professional external programme manager to co-ordinate and drive the design team to achieve the best possible timeframe for the project through the design stages of architectural planning to tender and construction.

"The brief for the major project is the development of a 10 classroom special school at the current site at Pavilion Road including the demolition of existing school buildings, construction of a new cchool Building and all associated site works.

"The design team has recently been approved to progress stage 2 (a) – developed design, where the preferred agreed design option can be developed to a stage where it can be fully cost planned and prepared to lodge for all statutory approvals, including planning permission.

"Upon receipt, review and approval of the stage 2(a) submission, my department will advise the school and design team of the further progression of the project to the next stage of architectural planning."
