Reigning champions get Mayo Women's league campaign off to winning start
Despite the heavy rainfall on Friday, which impacted pitches and playing conditions, a number of fixtures in the Mayo Women's League were fulfilled across all three divisions.
Reigning Premier League champions Manulla got the defence of their title off to a positive start, winning 3-0 against Swinford.
Aoife Brennan gave the home side the lead 19 minutes in, with goals from Lauren McLellan on 25 and 61 minutes wrapping up a good evening's work.
Alva Munnelly and Ciara Murphy evenly shared the four goals Killala put past Westport United in their Division 1 tie, which ended 4-0 in the visitor's favour.
Kathrina Barrett netted herself a hat-trick in Kilmore's 4-2 win on their travels to Kiltimagh Knock United.
On an evening when a young KK side saw no less than four 16-year-olds make their senior debuts, the home side competed very well against tough opposition, having trailed 4-1 at the break, and saw a goal in either half from Shona Mahon.
In Division 2, Glenhest Rovers have to wait for another day to make their league debut after their derby with Fahy Rovers was postponed.
Ballina Town got the better of Crossmolina in their local derby, 4-1, to make it two wins from two games for them.
Scoreless at the break, three goals came in quick succession when Emma Tolan opened Town's account on 51 minutes, Crossmolina replied from Ruth Queenan on 54, and Town responded almost instantly through Margaret Giblin. Kayla Salami and Tolan again notched up further scores to secure a Ballina win in what was an entertaining battle.
