Homes bought for N5 Mayo project coming back into use
WORK is underway to bring homes bought under CPO for the N5 Westport-Turlough road scheme back into use.
The good news was conveyed by director of services Tom Gilligan to councillors who have been voicing frustration at the homes sitting empty during a housing crisis.
Westport's Councillor Johnny O'Malley questioned the status of two homes in Attireesh at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council, with Councillor Ger Deere saying he was 'blue in the face' asking about properties on the Castlebar end of the road. It included a former B&B at Pheasant Hill, lying idle.
Mr. Gilligan confirmed that a figure has finally be agreed with TII about taking over the properties and work has commenced on them.
The council will be endeavouring to bring them back into use as soon as possible.
A lot of the delay, he added, had been out of their hands.
