Mayo charities and community groups invited to apply for ALDI Ireland grants
ALDI Ireland has launched its 2025 Community Grants Programme, continuing its commitment to supporting local charities and community organisations across the country.
This programme aims to empower local organisations who contribute vital work and services to their local communities, including Mayo.
ALDI is now calling on Mayo-based charities and community organisations to nominate themselves for a €500 ALDI Gift Card by dropping into their local ALDI store.
Staff from each of ALDI’s 163 stores, two distribution centres, and corporate offices will then vote for a charity or community organisation in their local area to receive the grant. This process enables ALDI’s staff to support worthy and impactful causes in their local communities.
Since it was launched in 2016, ALDI’s Community Grants Programme has donated over €758,000 to more than 1,000 local charity branches and community groups throughout Ireland. Recipient charities and organisations have ranged from disability support to children’s charities, animal sanctuaries, mental health support groups, sports organisations, and everything in between.
Rachel Nugent, national sustainability manager at ALDI Ireland, commented: “It is with great pride that we announce the return of our Community Grants Programme for 2025. Giving back to the communities we serve has always been hugely important to ALDI.
“Every year, we continue to be amazed by the fantastic work carried out by charities and community organisations. Their dedication and impact inspire us, and we are committed to supporting their efforts in any way we can.
“Through this programme, we aim to provide essential resources that help these organisations thrive and make a real difference in people's lives. Today, we would like to invite charities and community groups to nominate themselves at their local ALDI store. We again look forward to supporting their work and witnessing the positive changes they bring to our local communities.”
Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Jerry Buttimer, added: “I’m delighted to see ALDI’s Community Grants programme back again this year. Charities and grassroots groups across the country play a critical role in the communities they serve. I applaud the valuable work they continue to do in towns and cities all over Ireland, and the great role that ALDI staff and customers play in supporting them every year through this programme.”
ALDI Play Rugby Ambassador Paul O’Connell stated: “I am proud to be part of the announcement of ALDI’s Community Grants programme for 2025. With more than €86,000 on offer this year, I wish all the groups applying the best of luck.”
One of the beneficiary charities, Gay Project, shared their experience: “The support from ALDI’s Community Grants Programme has been invaluable. The donation helped us provide refreshments like tea, coffee, and snacks for our GOLD older men’s social café and our Queer Vibes social café, which is important for creating a welcoming and inclusive space for social connection.
“This support allowed us to enhance our community gatherings for the LGBTI+ community, who can often face high levels of social isolation. The grant helped us ensure that everyone who attended felt valued, comfortable, and part of a supportive network.
“This funding has enabled us to reach more people in need and provide essential services that make a real difference in our community. We are incredibly grateful for ALDI’s continued commitment to local communities and their dedication to supporting grassroots organisations like ours. We are grateful for ALDI’s continued commitment to local communities and I would encourage any interested organisations to apply today.”
