Mayo women to take on Mini Marathon to support youth mental health
Two inspirational Mayo women, supported by Resilience Healthcare, are preparing to lace up their runners for this year’s Western People’s Women’s Mini Marathon, taking place in Mayo on Sunday, May 4 and it’s all for a cause close to their hearts.
Leah O’Hara and Rachel Davitt, who attend the Resilience Healthcare day service for adults, will be joined on the day by dedicated staff member Mary Gibbons.
Together, they’re taking on the challenge to raise funds for Mayo Mindspace, a local mental health service supporting young people aged 15 to 25.
Leah who is from Newport and Rachel, a native of Turlough have already received an outpouring of encouragement from family, friends, and the wider community.
Now, the entire team at Resilience Healthcare is rallying behind them with full support and a promise of loud cheerleading come race day.
Resilience Healthcare, which opened in Castlebar in November 2024, has quickly become a vibrant and inclusive hub for adults with disabilities in the area.
The service prides itself on its person-centred approach, pairing each individual with a keyworker who helps them set and achieve meaningful personal goals.
Whether it’s learning new skills, exploring creative projects, or getting involved in community life, Resilience works side by side with those they support and this marathon effort is no exception.
“Mayo Mindspace does amazing work in our local community, and Leah and Rachel really wanted to give something back,” said Mary Gibbons. “It’s been an inspiring journey already, and we’re so proud of them.”
