Erris Chamber of Commerce launches new era at first business networking event
ERRIS Chamber of Commerce marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter with its first major event of the year - a transformative business networking session held at the Broadhaven Bay Hotel, Belmullet.
The event, which drew a vibrant gathering of over 80 local business owners, entrepreneurs and community leaders, served as the official introduction of Brian Bakeberg as the Chamber’s new chairperson and provided a platform for unveiling the Chamber’s renewed vision and strategic direction for 2025 and beyond.
Mr. Bakeberg, an accomplished businessman with international experience in business transformation, took the helm from outgoing chairperson Damien Langan, who was praised for his years of dedicated service and the strong foundation he built for the Chamber.
In his keynote address, Mr. Bakeberg outlined an ambitious roadmap focused on fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainable economic growth throughout the Erris region.
“My aim is to build upon the strong foundation laid by Damien Langan and create an environment where businesses in Erris can flourish,” Mr. Bakeberg stated. “We will prioritise sustainable growth by supporting local enterprises and creating opportunities for businesses to connect and thrive. Strategic partnerships, innovative initiatives, and a relentless focus on sustainable economic growth will be at the heart of our efforts.”
NEW MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
The event also served as the launchpad for the Chamber’s enhanced membership structure, promising greater value and impact for members. Attendees learned about expanded services and programmes designed to help local businesses grow, as well as new opportunities for networking and collaboration. Adjustments to membership fees were explained as necessary to support these improvements and to ensure the Chamber remains a powerful advocate for its members.
The Chamber also announced its €2,000 website grant for chamber members brought to any fully paid up member of any Mayo Chamber (Ballyhaunis, Ballina, Westport, Castlebar and Erris) by the Erris Chamber of Commerce & bp2w® - An Even Better Place to Work .
INSPIRATION AND PRACTICAL INSIGHTS
A highlight of the morning was an inspiring session with globally renowned speaker Shay McConnon, who shared actionable strategies for developing effective leadership and fostering workplace engagement.
His message resonated with the audience, emphasising that organisations are only as effective as their people, and that investing in leadership and employee engagement is key to unlocking business potential.
The Chamber welcomed a new committee, each bringing fresh perspectives and expertise. Outgoing chairperson Damien Langan will continue to serve as a special advisor, ensuring continuity and a seamless transition.
Mr. Bakeberg concluded: “Under my leadership, the Erris Chamber of Commerce will focus on becoming a leading voice for the business community and a catalyst for economic prosperity in the region. I encourage all businesses within Erris to join us as we work together to build a stronger, more unified business sector.”

With renewed energy, expanded offerings, and a clear vision for the future, the Erris Chamber of Commerce is poised to drive regional economic prosperity and support the growth of local enterprises. The Chamber invites all businesses in the area to engage with its new initiatives and be part of this exciting new era.
